LIONFISH CARIBBEAN

A CULINARY APPROACH TO REEF PROTECTION

Lionfish Caribbean stands out immediately with its bright pink exterior, but the concept becomes even more interesting once you understand the story behind it. The restaurant centers around lionfish, an invasive species in the Caribbean, prepared in a variety of ways that highlight its mild, delicate flavor - somewhere between cod and lobster.

The space also includes a boutique featuring handcrafted jewelry made from lionfish fins, along with workshops for visitors who want a more hands-on experience. Guests can learn about the species, create their own jewelry pieces, and finish the experience with lunch, bringing the concept full circle.

Lionfish first appeared in Curaçao’s waters around 2009. With no natural predators in the region, the species has caused significant damage to local reefs. Founder Lisette built the concept around actively removing lionfish from the ecosystem, often diving herself to source the fish before transforming it both in the kitchen and into jewelry. The result is a rare combination of sustainability, creativity, and storytelling that feels deeply connected to the island itself.

Located in the center of The Village square, the bright pink building and signature lionfish sculpture are hard to miss - and have quietly become one of the more photographed corners of the courtyard as well.
